I was fortunate to have grown up in a house with Christian parents. For as long as I can remember, I
have attended church and been an active member of youth organizations. This surely played a major
role in my decision to accept Jesus as my Savior and to want to be a good witness for Him.
In 2005, I was studying the book of Revelation, when I read Chapter 3, verses 15 and 16. Jesus was
speaking to the Church in Laodicea when He said, "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor
hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I
am about to spit you out of my mouth." (NIV)
Even though I had been active in church functions such as singing in the choir, starting a children's
church, and being president of my youth organization, I felt that I could do more for the glory of
God. I did not want my Lord to see me as a lukewarm Christian.
I started praying for a new ministry--one that would glorify Him and also draw those that need
Jesus into His fold. I did not have any idea what this ministry should be, but I knew God had a
plan. And whatever mission He gave me I was determined to do my very best. My wife and I
continued to pray for weeks and eventually our prayers were answered. On a Sunday morning we
had gone to the altar to pray when a deacon's wife approached us and said that she had a message
from God. She said that He told her that He was going to bless our new ministry!
That afternoon I went home and started writing. I have never written a book before, so I prayed
every time before I started to put words on paper (or in this case, words on a computer screen). I've
heard other writers say that their books took one or more years to write, but with God's guidance,
my manuscript was completed in five short months!
Now that the manuscript was finished, what was I to do with it? I again prayed before I searched
"publishers who publish new authors." Many websites were listed in the results, but they didn't
feel right. I searched "Christian publishers" and there were a few less than before. I tried opening
the sites with my dial-up Internet provider, but the only one that would open was the site of Tate
Publishing, Mustang, Oklahoma. I tried the search again after rebooting my computer, but still only
Tate's website opened. This was the site God wanted me to send the manuscript. The cop in me
searched Tate's history and I learned that Tate was honored as the 2006 Christian Publisher of the
year! I also learned that they receive tens of thousands of manuscripts per year and only give
contracts to approximately four percent of those authors. But God wanted me to send the
manuscript to them, so I refused to be discouraged and sent it. One month later, I received a
contract to publish Guardian of Light!
To God I give all the glory and praise! Guardian of Light is more than just another Christian
suspense novel. It is full of lessons and messages. God has already blessed those that have read it
because they have told me that they faced a crisis in their lives and something they read in the novel
taught them a lesson which they were able to use to confront their problem. If one person is saved
because of this book, it will all be worth it.
